I had a nice paddle in the river. There are many fallen trees so some experience with paddling or rowing is useful but this was my second time in a kayak and I had no issues. There is a dam (see pictures) after around 45 minutes of paddling (relaxed tempo), so you could do a return trip in under 2 hours. I saw no obvious path for carrying the kayak around the dam. The only thing I don't like is the rigidness of these automated systems - the lock only works at the exact minute that the time slot starts even if the kayaks are just sitting there, and you need to have it cleaned up and locked at the exact time that the time slot ends.
