This was my first and likely the last experience with this association. We gathered after a Facebook event to play On Mars, but aside from someone briefly reading a few rules at the start, we were left to figure out almost everything on our own. Expecting players to “just figure it out” with such a complex game (especially when they’re there specifically seeking guidance) is disrespectful to our time and effort. Instead, that person chose to sit with another group all day, teaching and playing a different game with them instead, lol. At the very least, you should play one or two rounds with the players before leaving them on their own. If you’re going to share events like this, you should clearly note that players will need to figure out everything themselves and that no real guidance will be provided. Dropping by two or three times randomly is not guidance, especially with games this complex, and it only ruins the experience.

Hi! First of all, thank you for your feedback, and I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience at the event. I’m also sorry for the late reply, we haven’t been able to respond to reviews until now. As you mention, On Mars is a very complex game, and we could have been clearer beforehand about what to expect. We also take your point about staying longer at the table in the beginning, that’s something we’ll improve for future events to make sure everyone feels more comfortable getting started. I had another rules teach scheduled right after as part of the same event, but going forward we’ll make sure to allow more time so we can stay for the first turns as well. At this particular event, we had multiple games scheduled with limited organizers, which meant I had to divide my time between tables. I did provide a full rules explanation of On Mars, which took close to an hour. After that, my intention was to remain nearby and available for questions. I was seated at the table next to you, helping another group get started and play, and checked in with your table a few times during the game. That said, I understand that this may not have felt like enough support, and it may not have been clear that I was available to help, that’s something we’ll try to improve. We appreciate you taking the time to share this, as it helps us improve. We’ll make sure to set clearer expectations and allocate more support time going forward. If you’d be open to giving us another try in the future, we’d love the chance to provide a better experience. /Erik

I've been a member for years and I've seen them go through many changes and they keep learning and getting better. Renee and Daniel are so welcoming and it's a wonderful way to meet new friends.

It was a lovely little club, the people were super friendly and helped me learn a few new games. It was free to come and visit for the first time and they had a big collection of games. would definitely recommend for people interested in board games!
