Visiting the World Maritime University was a special experience for me. As a teenager, I used to read the travel books of the renowned Sindhi travel writer Altaf Shaikh, who studied here during the 1990s. Ever since then, I had hoped to visit this university one day, and I was delighted to finally make it to Malmö. The campus is impressive, combining the beautifully preserved historic harbour building with a striking modern extension. Its location by the waterfront makes it even more attractive, and the surrounding area is peaceful and pleasant for a walk. The university has a truly international atmosphere, fitting for an institution established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to educate maritime professionals from around the world. Although I was only a visitor, it was wonderful to see in person a place I had known about for so many years through books. It was a memorable stop during my visit to Malmö, and I would recommend anyone interested in maritime education, architecture, or international institutions to see it.
