Bjeveröd Campsite – A Peaceful Oasis with Character (3½ out of 5) I can’t quite decide if this place deserves a 3 or a 4. Maybe something in between. Bjeveröd is a charming little oasis surrounded by nature, with a calm, almost ancient atmosphere. There are stone mounds scattered around, possibly old graves or the remains of ancient dwellings, which give the whole area a quiet, mysterious beauty. The campsite itself has a lovely windshelter, big enough for four to six sleeping bags. Right at its opening there’s a large fireplace built with massive stones that hold warmth long after the fire has gone out. A bit further away there’s another smaller firepit, perfect for a relaxed evening grill. And in the meadow next to the site, there even seems to be a third gathering spot, a simple fire circle that makes the whole place feel social and cozy. One of the biggest advantages is that you can’t drive all the way here. You have to walk a fair bit along the trail, which keeps this place blissfully free from noisy barbecue crowds and restless families with kids. It’s quiet, it’s simple, and it still feels wild in the best way. The downsides? There are some private houses nearby, and you can hear the faint hum of the highway in the distance. Cars accelerating now and then break the silence, which is a pity. Maybe it’s different in summer when the trees are full of leaves and the sound doesn’t travel as far. I’m here on a Wednesday afternoon in November, around 3:30 p.m., and I’ve already seen three people. Which, for someone who’s slightly allergic to humans, feels like a lot. Still, it’s beautiful, it’s peaceful, and it has soul. If only it were a bit quieter and more remote, it could easily be a five. For now, I’ll call it a solid 3½ out of 5, with plans to return in spring or summer to see how it feels then.
