We recently crossed the border from Finland to attend an event at Tornedalens Folkhögskola (Tornio Valley Folk High School) in Overtornea. The event focused on regional development, local identity, stories, and the Arctic lifestyle, and it was a fantastic experience. The school's auditorium is a great, functional venue for presentations. The event started with a wonderful lunch provided by the top-quality restaurant Kattilakoski, which we luckily got to enjoy outdoors in the beautiful weather. In addition to the presentations by initiatives like Attraktiv Arktisk Placemaking, the school's nature guide program, and the Heart of Lapland organization, the program included a lovely walking tour around the village to experience Overtorneà firsthand. It is worth noting that events here are held in Swedish, but the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming to everyone, regardless of age or profession. The school itself is a vibrant cultural hub in the border region. Highly recommend keeping an eye on their upcoming events!
