⭐☆☆☆☆ Extremely upsetting experience at the LEGO Store in Mall of Scandinavia - We had a deeply distressing experience at this LEGO store today, and I feel compelled to share it so that other families, especially those with autistic children or children with disabilities, are aware of what happened. My autistic son wanted to buy a LEGO set. While I was registering for a LEGO membership at the checkout, a friendly sales assistant encouraged him to try the LEGO pens displayed there. My son is shy and autistic, and he does not normally act independently without permission or encouragement. He cautiously tried a pen, wrote that he liked LEGO, and returned it to the bowl exactly as he was supposed to. After paying, we went to sit outside the store. Shortly afterwards, another employee approached us in an agitated manner and appeared to suspect my son of stealing a pen. She pressured him into returning to the checkout and showing her which pen he had used and where he had put it back. He had done nothing wrong. He had simply followed the first employee's invitation to try the pens. The confrontation took place in front of other customers, leaving my son feeling publicly humiliated and accused of being a thief. He became so distressed that he suffered a panic attack. We had to sit outside the store for a long time while he tried to recover from the experience. I returned to explain what had happened and showed the employee my son's international disability card. I explained that he was autistic and had suffered a panic attack as a result of the incident. What made matters even worse was that the employee appeared to laugh and showed no genuine understanding of the distress she had caused. There was no apology. I completely understand that stores need to protect their merchandise. However, **there is absolutely no excuse for confronting and intimidating a vulnerable young customer before checking the facts.** The employee could simply have asked the colleague who had served us and who had encouraged my son to try the pens in the first place. We had visited the store several times that day because we wanted to choose a LEGO set to take home as a souvenir from our holiday. We were paying customers, and my son was doing exactly what a member of staff had encouraged him to do. LEGO should be a place where children feel welcome, safe and free to enjoy their creativity. Instead, my son left feeling humiliated, frightened and falsely suspected of stealing. As a parent, it was heartbreaking to watch my child suffer a panic attack because of an interaction that could easily have been handled with patience, kindness and a simple conversation. No child should be made to feel this way, especially not for following a staff member's instructions. A deeply disappointing experience that has seriously affected our impression of this store.
