I recently had the pleasure of exploring Svalbard aboard the MS Sjöveien with PolarQuest, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish.
Captain Rasmussen did a fantastic job navigating the Arctic waters, always ensuring we were in the best locations to experience the incredible scenery and wildlife. The crew were exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help, making us feel at home throughout the voyage.
A special thank you to Therese and Marie, whose knowledge of Svalbard, its history, and its amazing wildlife greatly enriched the expedition. They were enthusiastic, approachable, and generous in sharing their expertise, making every landing and wildlife encounter even more meaningful.
Travelling on a small expedition ship was a fantastic experience. It created a friendly atmosphere, allowed easy access to remote locations, and made the whole journey feel much more personal. The food on board was exceptional, with every meal beautifully prepared and of a very high standard.
I would highly recommend PolarQuest and the MS Sjöveien to anyone wanting an authentic Arctic adventure. It was a truly memorable expedition, and I wouldn't hesitate to travel with them again.
I forgot to mention that the chef did an excellent job of providing us with outstanding meals which were delicious, nutritious and we certainly didn't go hungry.

Our Arctic voyage on the MS Stockholm with Polar Quest delivered some unforgettable moments — world-class scenery, rare wildlife sightings, and excellent guiding from Ely. The intimacy of sailing with just five other guests was special, and the food and birthday celebration onboard were highlights.
However, several issues reduced the overall experience. Our cabin, positioned directly against the engine room, had constant noise and occasional diesel odor; moving wasn’t truly an option, as the two empty guest cabins were already occupied by guides. One evening’s dinner service coincided with heavy swells — more than half the guests became seasick and no alternative meal was offered. Wi-Fi was restricted to one text for guests, yet we observed crew, cadets, and guides using it daily; in today’s expedition cruising, reliable basic connectivity has become an expected standard.
We were also never addressed by name, which felt surprising for such a small group, and with one guide absent for much of the trip, the promised two-guide, two-Zodiac setup only happened on a few days.
The Arctic itself was spectacular, but the combination of operational and hospitality gaps means we would only recommend this trip once these areas are addressed. With improvements, the MS Stockholm could deliver an experience as exceptional as its destination.
My son and I enjoyed an outstanding Polar Quest adventure in Svalbard on HMS Stockholm, June10-18. Our expectations were high, with emphasis on photography, and they were easily met and exceeded by PQ and the fantastic crew and guides. The ship is impeccably appointed with high quality amenities (old hardwood and polished brass furniture and bunk bed cabins, fitted, as can be expected into a moderately sized, 70-year old vessel). The menu and cooking were absolutely terrific with carefully selected wines served with dinner. The friendly crew, from captain and engine chief to deck hands made certain that we were safe and comfortable regardless of weather conditions.
Zodiak RIB excursions were made mornings and afternoons with our expert guides Eva and Boris at the helm. Several landings and hikes took us to wildlife habitats and historical sites and our guides’ deep knowledge and confidence gave us the opportunity to enjoy close encounters with walruses, seals, reindeer, whales and cliff nesting birds. We were also treated to a very rare sighting of four (!) polar bears in one location. The day’s experiences were digested over drinks, chilled with glacier ice and paired with presentations and lectures.
In all, this trip, planned with PQ staff based in Göteborg, became this year’s highlight and will likely lead to further PQ adventures.
Precis kommit hem ifrån en vecka på Svalbard med Polarquest. Resan får 5/5 ifrån mig, väldigt trevligt och bra arrangerat. Guiderna var superbra och de jobbade hårt för att de skulle bli en bra upplevelse. Stort tack för alla fina minnen🤩
1968 och 1969 jobbade jag först som mässkalle sedan som lättmatros på M/S Stockholm och fantiserar om att få åka på en tur igen men tyvärr har jag inte riktigt den ekonomin, men i fantasin kan jag åka med. 😁
