NTI Group’s recent decision to enforce the No Derivatives clause on 3DBenchy is a blatant strong arming and betrayal of the 3D printing community. For years, 3DBenchy was freely available for modification, a cornerstone of experimentation and innovation for makers everywhere. Now, NTI Group has decided to choke the life out of that spirit by aggressively clamping down on modifications that were never an issue before. The sudden enforcement of this outdated restriction smacks of corporate greed and a complete disregard for the very users who made 3DBenchy what it is today. It’s almost as if NTI Group sees the 3D printing community as nothing more than a resource to exploit, rather than the passionate, collaborative group that helped the model become a key benchmark in the industry. It’s mind-boggling that a company would take something as beloved and open as 3DBenchy, turn it into a restrictive legal tool, and actively punish those who have been modifying it for years without issue. This move is a slap in the face to the innovation and creativity that has driven 3D printing forward. I’ll be avoiding anything related to 3DBenchy under NTI Group’s reign, and I suggest others do the same. Frige Benchy, ni ligister!
