Mycket härlig atmosfär, samlat universitet med livligt studentliv för den som vill.

I enrolled in Statistics and Machine Learning MSc programme at this university which is advertised as being “at the intersection of modern machine learning and AI,” but in my experience the curriculum is much more heavily focused on traditional statistical methods. Topics such as Bayesian methods, MCMC, graphical models and state-space methods receive substantial attention, while modern areas such as LLMs, advanced transformers, generative AI, computer vision, reinforcement learning and ML systems - i.e. what everyone is interested in at the moment - receive little or no coverage beyond a basic introduction. The exam failure rates in some core courses are extremely high (up to 90%) yet the university is not making any attempts to investigate the issue and make adjustments. In addition, the administrative processes within the university are extremely poor, the university staff (and I think I have dealt with at least a couple of dozens of LiU staff members by now) take weeks to respond to emails, are seemingly unfamiliar with the concept of ETA and are very unhelpful in general. I would not recommend this particular programme or LiU as a place to study, in particular to international students.
