I'm a Seattle USA-based fine art photographer with a series of popular photographs that are often taken and used without permission. After I found one of my copyrighted works being used without authorization, license or attribution on a commercial website for a Swedish company, I contacted them directly to demand that they remove the infringement. I also sent them an invoice by which they could take responsibility for their thoughtless act. As if the infringement were not disappointing enough, they seemed to ignore my attempts to contact them, thinking perhaps that I would just go away. That's when I contacted Johanna Berg at Lexana Law. She aptly bridged the distance between Seattle and Stockholm, responding very quickly to my request for assistance and offering thoughtful counsel on the best way to proceed. She was very positive about the options I had. Within a matter of weeks she had contacted the company on my behalf and negotiated a settlement. The infringement was removed and I was satisfied that the company finally took responsibility for what they had done, hopefully learning that photographs do not just magically appear on the Internet for them to take and use as free content for the benefit of their own brand.
