Do not stay here unless you enjoy feeling completely trapped. Staying at Kastellet in the off-season felt less like a hotel stay and more like exile on Elba. The hotel completely failed to communicate that the cable boat was completely out of service, leaving us utterly stranded on both sides. We spent hours waiting around for public ferries that either skipped the stop entirely or never came, forcing us to scrap our entire itinerary and waste huge chunks of our trip. To make matters worse, the ferry staff was actively hostile toward American tourists. The representative literally pretended to ignore us while we were standing one meter away asking for help. Between the hotel’s gross lack of operational transparency and the completely broken, discriminatory transit service, this stay was a total disaster. If you want a relaxing trip, stay anywhere else.

We are pleased to see that you gave your room 5/5, although we are sorry that the difficulties you experienced with the ferry service had such a negative impact on your overall stay. Kastellet is located on its own island, and transport to and from the island is provided by Waxholmsbolaget as part of the public transport system. The former cable ferry has not operated for several years and is not part of the current transport service. Ferry schedules vary depending on the day and season, which is why we provide our guests with information before arrival on how to reach Kastellet and where to check the current timetable. We are also sorry to hear about your experience with the ferry staff. The ferry service and its staff are operated independently from Kastellet Bed & Breakfast, so unfortunately this is not something we can control. We are nevertheless glad that you enjoyed the accommodation itself and appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

Nice comfortable rooms in an awesome location. The fort is very cool and Vaxholm is beautiful. Though the inconvenience of the ferry might outweigh the coolness as they only come every hour which means you can’t really pop back to the hotel at any point. There are paid services that take you to and from the fort though. The breakfast was very nice. The shared toilets weren’t much of an issue for us, though I could imagine if it was busier it would become unmanageable quite quickly. Overall; it is very nice but you’ll need to decide whether you prefer sleeping in a cool location, or the convenience of not having to wait an hour to leave each time.

We’re very happy that you enjoyed the unique setting, the comfortable room, breakfast and the beautiful surroundings of Kastellet and Vaxholm. For travel between Vaxholm and Kastellet, we generally recommend the Waxholmsbolaget ferries, as SL tickets are valid on these services. You can travel using anything from a single ticket to a travel pass suited to the length of your stay, which can also be used on public transport throughout the Stockholm region. The timetable varies depending on the day of the week and the season, and current departures can be found in the SL app. During the high season there are also additional passenger boats between Vaxholm and Kastellet. In 2026 these have operated every 20 minutes during their service hours, but they have a separate ticketing system where each journey is paid for individually. Helt okej boende egentligen. Rummen är okej men saknar toalett vilket vi missade. Gemensamma toaletter/duschar finns. Dock saknar handpapper och duschtvål. Lyhörda rum. Enkel frukost som duger. Ingen direkt personal som jobbade där så kan egentligen inte ge betyg på "tjänster". Självbetjäning. Man får även tänka på att det inte finns restauranger på Kastellet och att båtarna inte går dygnet runt så gäller att planeravad man ska göra. Ändå lite kul med ett annat typ av boende.

Fantastiskt fin o spännande plats, rummen var små o trist att att få havsutsikt. Toa och dusch rena och lättillgängliga. Frukosten ok.

Im not lying. An absolut terrible experience. No bathrooms in the rooms. The workers have a terrible attitude. It’s more like an tourist trap and bad hostel. Personel came into our room before knocking on door. When I confronted the manager they refused even to apologize.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. The bathrooms and showers are located in the corridors, close to the guest rooms. Several bathrooms are available and shared between our guests. When you use a bathroom, you have it entirely to yourself – just like at home. As the accommodation and facilities matched the description provided at the time of booking, we were unfortunately unable to offer a refund. Regarding your concern about privacy, a member of staff mistakenly believed the room was ready for housekeeping shortly before the 11:00 check-out time. As soon as they realized guests were still in the room, they immediately apologized and left. We wish you all the best.

För närvarande finns tyvärr ingen restaurang på själva ön, men i centrala Vaxholm finns flera restauranger och caféer bara några minuters båtfärd bort. Varmt välkomna tillbaka!
