BEWARE! DISHONEST OWNERS - SUBSTANDARD ACCOMMODATION Checked in and paid after 6 pm. Had been driving all day and needed to lie down to rest. We could feel the springs through the topper of the bed. Lifted everything and saw that the bed was so worn I could actually hold the springs (photo). The topper itself is old, worn and almost flat. We called to ask for an additional topper to soften the bed. Were told someone would come at 8 pm so a wait of 1 1/2 hours. Owner's wife came and threw 2 old, yellow, hard sponge mattresses on the floor (photo). She expected us to make the beds. I said no, we're paying guests. We pointed out that these are not toppers but old sponge mattresses, she replied verbatim "Do you expect me to go to Mio and buy you new toppers?" We also pointed out that were children's bed size and did not fit the bed (photo) Reply was nothing but rudeness from her. I pointed out the springs in the bed and she replied that she had slept in that bed for 2 years and then guests had slept on it for 17 years without complaints. My husband said that we are the paying guests now and the condition of the beds and her solution of a child's old sponge mattress was unacceptable. Spring beds have a maximum life of 8 years, not 19. She was EXTREMELY rude, unprofessional and unapologetic. No solution so we said we could not sleep on those old sponge mattresses that didn't even fit. We requested our money back so we could go elsewhere. She stormed out and banged the door. We called the husband whose reply was "absolut inte" absolutely not. We went to the police for advice. It was after 9pm, exhausted and upset at the owners' attitude. I showed the police the photos and they advised us to write a written report so they have it on file, report it to Swedish consumer affairs and write reviews accompanied by the photos. Because it wasn't a criminal offence but a civil one that's all they could do. When we returned to the property well after 10 pm reception was long closed and we discovered our key card was blocked. The owner was outside in the dark, clearly waiting for us, and handed us a different one that was active. This is proof that he saw us drive off earlier, cancelled our key, went into our room without our permission, saw our things still there so he had to activate a new key. Very dishonest, very sneaky and clearly only interested in money and not the guests' comfort. ALSO BEWARE, he's very calculated in that he charges 1450 kr which is 50 kr less than the minimum required to be able to lodge a complaint with the Swedish consumer authority. The room is definitely not worth 1500 kr. It's sparse and very unwelcoming. We were at a proper hotel the night before which was no comparison at all for approx 1240 kr. If you like a lie-in, forget it. Upon check in we were told on no uncertain terms breakfast finishes at 8.30 even though it says 9 on his key folder. Booking.com tried to get a refund for us, showing him the report and photos but he absolutely refused again.
