February 2025 Very poor and unprofessional experience here today from a nurse called Kristina. This nurse greeted me with what I can only describe as a hateful stare and rudely asked "What are you doing here?!" In the first minute of meeting me, Kristina had accused me of being "on holiday in Sweden or something" despite me just informing her that I was a patient who had been referred by Sandviken midwifery team that same day due to a miscarriage. Most patients are asked for a personummer or ID card at the beginning of a conversation with a health professional. Unfortunately, Kristina decided to treat me differently and then disregard me as having a right to health care in Sweden. Kristina showed a complete lack of professionalism, empathy and care to a patient. I would be reluctant to return here after this meeting today. I cannot stress the hatred in this woman's face when she spoke to me, and the judgement I felt in that moment. I would not like to think of this happening to anyone else visiting the women's department. Worryingly, this is not the first comment or review made here regarding a lack of empathy and hostility towards English speaking people. Very concerning. May 2025 Update: I made a formal complaint to the hospital and received a reponse quite quickly. The nurse mentioned above was given a copy of my letter and was spoken to about her unprofessional conduct. As well as this, I received a sincere apology letter on behalf of Gynaecology, which acknowledged their employee's actions as totally unacceptable. I was so relieved that I had been listened to and taken seriously. As a result of my complaint, the department reviewed its telephone service and updated it with English language options to maximise accessibility for those who are not Swedish. If you read this, and have had a poor experience, or have been disrespected by an individual in the department, I really would urge you to log a formal complaint. Patient feedback is the only way to make change and weed out the people who are used to getting away with treating people badly. People like this are bringing down standards, harming vulnerable people, and undermining the reputation of the hospital and also the integrity of the department they work in. Making a complaint does go some way towards improving standards so that other women do not have to go through the same mistreatment. _______________________________________________ If you wish to make a complaint, you can do so by searching for the Patient Committee Administration (Patientnämnden) - Region Gävleborg- where you'll find telephone contact details and an email address. We got excellent service from them. We had to stay there for 3 days after the delivery. Overall process and every person was helpful and friendly. 👍

The nurse who saw me today was absolutely horrible to me! She hated me the second she saw me,to the point where I physically felt sick because of her stare and her behaviour. She was aggressive and extremely dismissive. The nurse was so eager to get rid of me as soon as she saw that she hardly could contain herself from just pushing me outside.She was extremely dismissive of my symptoms and needs,didn’t want to listen at all and frankly did not care. The nurse thought that I am annoying for having audacity to come to the hospital and ask for help. She also said that she spoke English but as turned out she either doesn’t understand English or she just brushed off all my symptoms and pretends she didn’t hear me saying that I have excessive brown liquids coming out of my vagina what is a symptom to several hard causes,including infections. The nurse just did not want to and didn’t do her job,only spent a second to tell me to shut up and go home.

Receptionisten är inte speciellt trevlig när en ringer. Det är faktiskt väldigt viktigt att de i en reception inom vården har ett tillmötesgående och vänligt sätt. De får faktiskt ta emot människors förtroende när de berättar något personligt om sin egen hälsa, då behandlar man inte det som något som bara är störande och tidskrävande. Det är viktigt att en receptionist är förtroendeingivande och inte avvisande. Lyckligtvis fick jag prata med en sjuksköterska sen som var både varm, go och empatisk.
