Being asked to donate directly at checkout feels terrible like social pressure. It's a terrible experience whether you donate or not. A better approach would be to post donation info at the register or raise prices to include the donation

Twice now I've had a horrible experience with the middle aged blonde woman that works the register. She is pleasant until you happen to mess up your Swedish and she realizes you aren’t a native Swede, then she becomes incredibly rude and downright hostile. My boyfriend (who is Swedish) and I were there a few days ago and had this recent horrible encounter with her. I recently started SFI and, for a moment, forgot what "kvitto" meant and looked to my boyfriend for help. When I turned back to the woman, her entire demeanor had changed. She refused to give me a bag for my items that I had, in Swedish, asked for. She was glaring at us intently and switched to English for the remainder of the transaction, literally speaking through gritted teeth like it was absolutely killing her to have to interact with us! I don't know what her deal is, but that is truly abhorrent behavior and we will not return until she has been properly dealt with.
