It took awhile to write about this place because it was a big part of my Stockholm experience and I wanted to do it justice. There were two places I would go in more or less every day and it was here and Caffe Nero just a few hundred metres away. Why does the Brit abroad adopt certain places as their own? I couldn't tell you for sure and it isn't just me that does this but most of us do this when we go on holiday and there was a big difference between how I went into both places. I would go in Caffe Nero most afternoons smelling of GuerlaIn 'Vetiver', dressed impeccably and on my best behaviour, drinking coffee and eating kanelbullar, contemplating about life and the universe at leisure, like a civilised person of culture. I would go into 7-11 after a skinful at John Scotts - staggering in merrily smelling of the night, greeting whoever was at the counter with a big wave of the hand and a cheery 'Hiiiiiiiiiiii! You alright?'. Now to be fair, I was never ever that drunk because you need to be Bill Gates rich to get drunk on Swedish beer - it's like 14 quid a pint at some of the places I went to - but it was a regular occurrence and I would be met by one of these three delightful people. 1) Cute blonde girl who introduced me to the double fransk hot dog and we would exchange pleasantries as I let her pick the sauces - because what do I know about what sauces go with a double fransk hot dog? I know nothing about such things so I trusted her and was right to do so because they became my go to every night. 2) Guy with a silver pork pie hat - who would come out with British-isms and I was like 'where did you learn that?' and he would go 'I learned it on YouTube' Keir Starmer should give him a British passport! Or me and him can do a nationality swap! He would make a better Brit than me anyway. 3) Cute brunette - by then, I knew what sauces went into my double fransk hot dog and would order them as she patiently tolerated my half drunk jibba jabba. And then I would get my double fransk hot dog, pay for it with my crappy British debit card that only works when it wants to. Wave to them in an overenthusiastic manner and go 'byeeeee' which would sometimes come out like a yodel on the top of the Alps as I would then try and walk to the door in a straight line without knocking anything over or breaking anything - though on the odd occasion I would bump into something, I would apologise to it immediately. Total time spent in there on average per visit - three minutes or thereabouts. So, these are the three people who I would encounter more or less every night and I would order the same thing, sometimes with a Dime bar if I was really hungry, I ordered a salad once but didn't do it again when I found that I had to pay 150 kroner for one. So, double fransk hotdogs became an addiction of mine and good job they do not exist in England because I would end up like one of those yanks you see on the telly needing to be carried out of their bed by the fire brigade because they weigh 300 kilos and haven't left their house for 15 years. So, this 7-11 was a big part of my Stockholm experiences - they were the greatest trips of my life and I think about the people I met and the places I went to every single day. Especially now I am in Lima, Peru which is the complete opposite of Stockholm in every single way. I will be back to eat more double fransk hot dogs from here some time in the future - who knows when though - five stars!
